FOWLER - Senator Tim Huelskamp today reiterated his continued support of THE Health Care Freedom Amendment. In doing so, he reaffirms his commitment to stand with Kansas leaders, The Kansas Chamber of Commerce, and Americans for Prosperity - Kansas, in fighting ObamaCare.
The Health Care Freedom Amendment would empower Kansans to choose whether or not to join any health care system. The legislation would also allow citizens to pay directly for medical care without penalties or fines, which is not allowed in some single-payer countries.
"Had Senator Jim Barnett's 2007 bill SB 309 passed, The Health Care Freedom Amendment would render it unconstitutional," said Huelskamp spokesman Brian Weber. "In essence, The Health Care Freedom Amendment is a direct response to ObamaCare -- but more locally -- it's a repudiation of "SebeliusCare" and "BarnettCare."
Barnett’s health care plan included employer penalties, individual fines, garnishing the wages of those who do not comply, elimination of various individual and small group plans, and other restrictions on health insurance choice. Together with former Governor Sebelius, Barnett has also pushed numerous other expansions of state programs, tax increases, and new bureaucracies for health care administration in Kansas.
If approved by two-thirds of the Kansas Senate and two-thirds of the Kansas House, this resolution will be voted upon by the citizens of Kansas during the 2010 election.
